COURSE MODULES

EVRC offers a comprehensive approach to the development of earthquake vulnerability and risk reduction strategies, which provide an overview of earthquake situations, and addresses required measures for preparedness and planning for response. The course presents theoretical knowledge, state-of-art practices, as well as successes and failures in global earthquake risk management. The course is divided into four modules with key topics as following:

Module 1: Principles of Earthquake Risk Reduction
Module 2: Tools and Techniques of Earthquake Risk Assessment
Module 3: Earthquake Vulnerability and Risk Reduction Strategies
Module 4: Planning for Earthquake Risk Reduction
Module 5: Plan Monitoring and Evaluation

TARGET PARTICIPANTS
This course is particularly useful for those concerned with earthquake vulnerability reduction in the development context. It is open to all countries. Participation by decision makers, elected and appointed national and local administrators, development and planning authorities, as well as officials in urban planning, housing, public works, and related sectors is especially encouraged. The course also benefits private real estate land developers, personnel from emergency response agencies, and officials from UN, NGOs, and other international agencies working on disaster risk reduction and mitigation.

The course will be taught in English and participants must have sufficient competency in English.

The class size is limited to 35 persons. ADPC accepts nominations on a “first come, first served” basis provided the applicant meets the course requirements.
